Cubie was born in Canton to Hubert and Laura (Roberts) Carpenter on May 8, 1945. He went to high school at Herman Dekalb, NY. He was employed at St. Lawrence University in maintenance and also worked for St. Lawrence County before starting work for the Town of Hermon for 30 Years and retired in 2001.

Cubie loved being with his grandchildren, especially on every-other Wednesday’s when they would take the garbage to the dump, and then go for treats at Stewarts in Gouverneur. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, (mostly from the back porch). There were always things to laugh at and songs they would sing in the truck. In the past few years he and his wife enjoyed traveling with the Canton Senior Group.

Cubie is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Liz). Cubie gained three children when he married Liz in May 1988, James Waugh and wife Debi, Glens Falls, Thomas Waugh, Richville, and Katherine and John Whiteford of Hermon. He also has grandchildren, Abe Waugh, Courtney and Jake Dies, Colorado, Donald, Hannah, Mason, Abigail, Hayden, and Sophie Whiteford, Hermon; one brother, Ed Carpenter and wife Kathy, Hermon; and a sister, Lori Carpenter, Hermon.

A cousin, Mike Vereshek, Redwood, is one of Cubie’s favorite people to hang out with when he was younger and as the years progressed their friendship was always to give each other many laughs and tell how things were way back when….

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hubert and Laura (Roberts) Carpenter. A son-in-law, Donald Whiteford also passed in 2007.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence County.
